Doctor Takaaki Matsuoka
Diplomate & Certified Instructor, American Board of Regenerative Medicine (ABRM)

I am Dr. Matsuoka, the head Helene Clinic. In fact, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2011.

Following my cancer surgery, I was fortunately declared cancer-free, but I struggled to regain my physical strength and vitality. This led me to experience stem cell therapy firsthand as a patient. The results were remarkable—my energy levels fully restored to where they were before my diagnosis. Having experienced this profound healing myself, I felt inspired to actively bring this advanced treatment to our clinic to help others.

According to the theory of stem cell homing, damaged cells release a molecular "SOS signal" via the SDF-1/CXCR4 axis. Stem cells detect this signal and navigate directly to the site to initiate tissue repair. In short, this is a targeted therapy that inherently focuses on the body's most vulnerable areas. For healthy adults, these stem cells proactively seek out subclinical, pre-symptomatic damage—repairing cellular micro-injury before symptoms ever manifest.

In my own case, I underwent stem cell therapy to address thyroid dysfunction following my cancer surgery. The treatment was remarkably effective in alleviating my persistent fatigue, susceptibility to exhaustion, and hot flashes. Furthermore, it significantly restored my cognitive sharpness—I feel as though my memory and cognitive agility have been rejuvenated to what they were a decade ago. Today, I continue to receive stem cell therapy annually as a patient, driven by this personal success to explore the potential of stem cells in an even safer and more effective manner.

Furthermore, stem cell exosome therapy—widely recognized for delivering benefits comparable to stem cells—holds immense potential and has become a primary focus here at HELENE. Traditionally, our organs gradually degenerate but were never clinical targets until overt disease manifested; today, stem cell therapy enables proactive maintenance at the earliest stages. Because our vital organs cannot simply be replaced, preserving them throughout our lifetime requires deliberate effort—and I believe anti-aging through stem cell science is the most advanced way to achieve this.

Professor Ravindra Gupta
Professor of Clinical Microbiology, University of Cambridge
Career
  • Professor of Clinical Microbiology, Institute of Immunology and Infectious Diseases, University of Cambridge
  • Member of the Africa Health Institute, Durban, South Africa
  • Named one of Time Magazine's "100 Most Influential People of 2020"
  • Named "The World's Most Influential Microbiologist" in 2022

Professor Gupta leads the Gupta Laboratory, which conducts extensive research on HIV drug resistance at both the molecular and population levels, contributing significantly to assessing the global scale of drug resistance. The group’s research also encompasses the study of HIV reservoirs within cells, particularly macrophages. This understanding is critical both for mapping the anatomical compartments where HIV viral replication occurs within macrophages, and for designing targeted therapeutic strategies to cure HIV. The Gupta Laboratory operates jointly between the UK and the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) in Durban, South Africa.

In March 2019, it was reported that Professor Gupta led a research team that achieved HIV remission in an HIV-positive patient with advanced Hodgkin's lymphoma following a matched unrelated stem cell transplant—the celebrated "London Patient." Even after discontinuing antiretroviral therapy post-transplant from an HIV-resistant donor, the London Patient remained completely free of the virus, marking only the second time in medical history that a patient has been cured of HIV (Gupta et al., Nature 2019; Gupta et al., Lancet HIV 2020).

Cutting-edge technology and innovative approaches in MSC culture at Helene Clinic

Ravindra Gupta, Distinguished Professor of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at the University of Cambridge, shared his insights into the potential of stem cells at the Helene Clinic.

In an exclusive interview, Professor Gupta discussed the challenges and opportunities in mass-culturing mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), emphasizing the absolute necessity of maintaining purity through rigorous oversight. He highly commended Helene Clinic’s pioneering achievement in culturing 2.25 billion MSCs, specifically praising their sophisticated integration of multi-layer culture flasks, the proprietary "Helene Growth Medium," and stringent quality control protocols that ensure only the purest MSCs are delivered to patients.Addressing common anxieties regarding tumorigenicity, Professor Gupta reassured that due to the strict, intrinsic self-regulatory mechanisms of stem cells, the risk of oncogenic transformation is minimal—and may paradoxically even help mitigate overall cancer risks.

Regarding the clinical application of exosomes, Professor Gupta expressed great enthusiasm for their immense therapeutic potential. He highlighted their critical role in intercellular communication and mitigating inflammation, noting that exosomes possess exceptionally low immunogenicity, which allows for remarkable compatibility across different patients with minimal risk of immune detection.Furthermore, Professor Gupta applauded Helene Clinic’s rigorous purification and testing protocols, which guarantee the highest standards of exosome quality and efficacy. He also explored the promising frontier of combining mesenchymal stem cell therapy with exosome infusions, envisioning a powerful synergistic effect capable of significantly amplifying therapeutic outcomes.

Overall, the esteemed professor from Cambridge University praised the Helene Clinic's cutting-edge technology and innovative approach, affirming that it is at the forefront of stem cell therapy research and application.
